After a short business meeting PROMPTLY at 9:30 (no social hour), we will car pool to visit the gardens of Master Gardeners Mr. & Mrs. Frank Zmirak in Morehead and Dr. & Mrs. Maurice Richardson in Newport to learn about “Landscaping for Small and Large Gardens.” Refreshments will be served. Garden Club meetings and programs are open to PKS residents and guests, and we hope that you will join with us to learn and explore new things. Even though there are no meetings during the summer, Garden Club members Lois Jean O’Keefe and Joan Smith have continued to take care of the Hereth Garden in front of Town Hall, each working at least one morning per week. Other Garden Club members work in seven other public areas in Town. Second Vice President Betsy McGibbon serves as curator of the seven public areas. She decides what will be planted and procures plants, mulch, fertilizer, etc. with funds from the Club’s budget. Betsy schedules workdays throughout the year to keep the gardens looking their best. Garden Club members are asked to volunteer their labors for a minimum of two hours per month. Garden Club members also pick up trash every other week in selected areas. Bingo Prize Hits Three Figures The big prize at the monthly Bingo session at Bogue Banks Country Club Thursday, Aug. 5 moved into three figures with a substantial $110 being awarded in the final game of the night. It wasn’t the first time the top prize surpassed the century mark, but it is indicative of the growing interest in Bogue Banks Bingo. Fifty-two people were present for the session, a goodly crowd. Bingo is presented at BBCC on the first Thursday of the month beginning at 7 p.m. There are 10 regular games, with a break after the seventh game for refreshments. The eleventh and final game of the night is a fill-in the entire card game that keeps everyone on the edge of their seats. Everyone is welcome.
